Reverend Violet Johnicker, who serves as Pastor of Brooke Road UMC and as Associate Director of RUM (Rockford Urban Ministries), will be giving as an update of RUM’S Impact on our Community.
Founded in 1962, RUM is the outreach of more than 20 faith communities working together in on social justice ministries. Some of these ministries include rehabilitating houses through Rockford New Hope, Habitat for Humanity and Zion Development for the low-income individuals and families, establishing/ continuing the annual CROP walk, providing community anti-racism programs, programming for Winnebago County Juvenile Detention Center, encouraging re-entry programs for newly released and fighting the reliance of the State on gambling.
Rev. Johnicker is a recently ordained Elder of the UMC. She has a Master of Divinity from McCormick Seminary as well as a Master of Public Policy from Adler and a BA in nonprofit management and is trained in community organizing.
Before serving Brooke Road UMC, Rev. Johnicker, was at St. Pauls’s UCC in Chicago and has experience as an executive director at community and economic development nonprofits in Kenosha, WI and in her hometown of Waukegan, IL.
